I grind the stumps four to eight inches below the ground's surface to allow the root system to decompose. Once the stump is ground, you will have a mound of wood chips to use as mulch in your planting gardens or around trees and bushes.  I would not suggest using walnut chips as mulch around bedding, plants, trees, and shrubs, because they are highly acidic and could damage your plants.  If you want grass to grow in the old stump location, you will want to remove the mulch and fill with black dirt to the ground level.

Stump grinding provides a quick, aesthetically -pleasing result to your property.  In removing the stump, it's one less obstacle that the home owner has to mow and trim around.  By grinding the stump, your property is also safer because potential damage to expensive mowing equipment and other liabilities are eliminated.
